Internship in an Orphanage in Uganda

Poverty, massive outbreak of HIV and AIDS and the lack of healthcare and medical facilities has created more than 2.5 millions of orphans in Uganda. Most of these orphans are living in vulnerable situations and are growing up with unhealthy and unsafe childhood.

As an intern abroad in Ugandan orphanage, you will care for and support the kids and show them a better future with your skills and expertise. You will teach English and other subjects to the kids, involve them in fun-learning, sports and creative activities, instruct them with life-skills, help orphanage administration with documentation, fundraise and research, and raise awareness about education, healthcare and sanitation.

A large portion of Ugandan population has been alarmingly affected by the rampant epidemics of HIV&AIDS pushing them further onto the edge of socioeconomic condition.

Interns with HIV/AIDS awareness project in Kampala of Uganda assist the local non-profit organizations by spreading awareness about the disease—its cause, prevention measures, symptoms and outcomes, counseling the affected community and helping them with rehabilitation, preparing awareness materials, organizing HIV support groups, helping affected families with income generation and healthcare & medicine facilities and maintaining & building community health centers.

Medical Internship in Uganda

As a medical and healthcare, you will work aside local doctors and medical staffs and raise awareness on health, sanitation, prevention of diseases, family planning etc. With humane support and medical expertise, you will provide needy Ugandans with basic health and therapeutic care.

With medical healthcare internship, you will acquire more of the professional and on-job experiences on the field being a part of humanitarian project. You will get a chance to help the communities who are living with low income, low socioeconomic condition and without basic healthcare facilities.

Education Requirements and Project Skills:

To apply for internship in healthcare and medical project, you need to submit a resume and medical credentials like an identity card as evidence of being a medical student, medical practitioner, nurse, paramedic etc. Apart from these, interns are expected to be open-minded, hardworking and inspired.

Supervision and Field Support

The interns in the internship project will be guided and supervised by an experienced and qualified supervisor. Usually the head of the project will be mentoring the interns throughout the internship duration, guiding them professionally towards the completion of the project. Depending on the qualification and time allotted for the project, interns may be required to pay an additional supervision fee of $25-$50 per week to the supervisor.

College credit for internship project in Uganda

Please note that Helping Abroad does not provide college credits for internship project. Our local office or your supervisor can give you a letter verifying the duration and project of your internship. If you need college credit for your internship, please contact your own university or college. You can also talk to your professor.

Room and Food

Interns in Uganda will mostly be staying with a host family in simple houses located at safe and clean neighborhood with easy accessibility to internet cafes, supermarkets, restaurants and bus stops. Host families for Helping Abroad are well screened and are respectable community members. Interns are usually provided with a private bedroom, but occasionally rooms will be shared with a same-gender volunteers or interns. Most of our host families have experience with hosting international volunteers and interns. Host family stays are a great chance for cultural immersion and exchange. Rooms can also be provided in hostels or home bases where our international volunteers and interns and interns are accommodated.

Interns will be provided with meals three times a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner). However, other snacks and drinks outside the meal times will not be included. Vegetarian meals can be arranged for interns, however it should be aforementioned in the application form.

Free Time

The Internship does not require interns to get involved in work 24/7. They will have free time in their hands during the evenings and during weekends, which they can use for interacting with other interns and visiting local areas nearby. Interns can go for safari tours in the famous national parks, go for hiking, try adventurous activities like Gorilla tracking, etc. They will have a lot of activities to do during their free time.
