Internship Programs

Internship in Orphanage in Mexico

A lot of children in Mexico have been abandoned or orphaned due to numerous reasons. Some of these children are homed by local orphanages, with which Helping Abroad has collaborated to provide internship opportunities.

Interns in the orphanage project will be involved in teaching and tutoring the children in the orphanage. They can also help in organizing extracurricular activities and learning activities for the children. Interns can choose to engage in teaching English and other skills like painting, sewing, cooking etc. Or help in the administration as well, alongside helping in fundraising.

Working with orphanages in Mexico will give interns an invaluable experience to observe and understand the consequences of poverty and conflict upon the lives of these children. It will be an insightful experience for interns and good way to start if social work and community development is what one is interested in.

Education Requirements and Project Skills:

This internship does not require any kind of educational qualifications, skills or experience. Interns should come with a passion for working for the welfare of children, should be flexible and patience in nature and should have a feeling of compassion for the children. The internship is especially recommended to those seeking to start a career in social work, community development, childcare etc. Interns with fluency in Spanish are highly preferred.

Teaching Internship in Mexico

Rural areas of Mexico have schools that are understaffed and under-resourced. Because good schools are unaffordable, children from poor families attend these schools where they have fewer chances of improving their English. Helping Abroad partners with these schools and provides internship opportunities to teaching enthusiasts like you, to teach English in these schools.

Teaching English Project will place interns in these schools, where they will be teaching English, whether by direct classroom teaching or assisting the local teachers with classroom activities. Interns will help make the classes more interactive and fun to learn. They can also help in curriculum development and can participate in fund raising activities. Interns have the choice to get involved in the daily administrative duties.

Internship in the teaching English Project will enable interns to practice their teaching skills and bring their knowledge to use, bringing a change in the teaching methodologies in rural Mexican schools, . Interns will get to learn and observe more, by teaching in a challenging environment among new students and new settings.

Education Requirements and Project Skills:

There are no requirements (educational qualifications and experience) for this internship. But interns should be patient with the children and flexible to the working environment that is different than the one they are used to. Interns are also expected to be fluent in Spanish, however, those without knowledge in Spanish can join Spanish classes as well.

Special Education Internship in Mexico

Interns in this program will be placed in projects that work with differently-abled children. Helping Abroad collaborates with a project that is funded by the Mexican government, which is in need for resources and staffing. It provides internship opportunities to those who are interested.

Interns will be working alongside challenged children with diseases like autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and deafness participating in activities like speech therapy, physical therapy and psychology. They can also take special classes to teach English to the children or can choose to get involved in fundraising activities of the school.

Interns in this project will get a unique insight into the lives of differently abled children and have a lot to learn in a different working environment like this one. The internship will enable interns how to properly deal with children living with disabilities and will be most beneficial to those who want to get a career in disabilities, child care, physiotherapy and pediatrics.

Education Requirements and Project Skills:

Interns for this project will be required to be comfortable working with children with special needs. It would be a bonus if the interns are trained in physiotherapy and psychology, however these are not requirements. They are also expected to be kind, compassionate and patient with the children. Interns should have a good command over Spanish, however those who do not speak Spanish can enroll in Spanish classes as well.

Internship in Sea Turtle Conservation in Mexico

Get indulged in conservation efforts of Mexico, to save the Olive Ridley Sea Turtles which are threatened to extinction due to illegal poaching and extensive predator activities. Helping Abroad provides internship opportunities to those interested, to get a unique experience of internship abroad.

Interns for this project will be working closely with locals, to provide care and protection to the turtles. Interns can get involved in rescuing and rehabilitating the turtles, help in research, recording details of the turtles that are captured, tag them and set them free in the ocean. They can also help in patrolling the beach areas during night, to protect from poachers and to chase away predator animals.

The Turtle Conservation Project is a fun way to learn and get involved in conservation efforts if you are an ardent animal lover. This is great place to start a good career in wildlife and bio diversity conservation.

Education Requirements and Project Skills:

This internship program does not have specific educational requirements or skills that the interns need to fulfill, but the interns are expected to be patient, flexible and easy going, with the undying love for animals and nature. Those with an excellent command over Spanish will be highly preferred.

Supervision and Field Support

The interns in our programs will be guided and supervised by experienced and qualified supervisors, expert in their respective fields. Usually the head of the project will be mentoring the interns throughout the internship duration, guiding them professionally till the completion of the project. Depending on the qualification and time allotted for the project, interns may be required to pay an additional supervision fee of $25-$50 per week to the supervisors.

College credit for internship project in Mexico

Helping Abroad does not provide college credit in our internship projects. Our local office or your supervisor will provide you with a letter and certificate on the completion of your program verifying your work as an intern and your job responsibilities as an intern. If you need college credit for your internship, please contact your own university or college. You can also talk to your professor.

Room and Food

Interns in Mexico will be staying at the home base located in a safe and clean neighborhood with easy accessibility to internet cafes, supermarkets, restaurants and bus stops. They will be provided with meals three times a day (local Mexican food). Interns who require vegetarian food should specify it while filling up the application. However, other snacks and drinks outside the meal times will not be included. The rooms will have basic amenities of a normal bedroom, which the interns will normally be sharing with interns of the same gender.

Free Time

Internship does not require interns to get involved in work 24/7. They will have free time in their hands during the evenings and during weekends, which they can use for interacting with other interns and visiting local areas nearby.
