Teaching English Internship in India

Intern teaching students

Internship in India Orphanage

Despite the growing economy and flourishing standard of living, India is still home to a large number of orphans, who (if fortunate) live in orphanages that provide basic needs and education to the children. Learn how to share love, teach and take care of children, showing them paths to a brighter future.

Interns will be responsible for guiding the children with their homework, and teaching them subjects like English, Science and Math. They can also organize extra activities like games and play during free time. They will be taking care of the children and also teaching them about life skills and hygiene. Interns can also choose to work in the administrative side, and take part in the fund raising activities for the orphanage.

It is said that if you teach a woman then you teach to a whole new generation. However, in rural parts of India, due to various reasons like poverty, superstitions and society induced gender roles; women do not get to receive education, and in turn, end up being poor and illiterate.

HIV/AIDS Internship project in India

Hundreds of families in India have been devastatingly affected by HIV/AIDS. Hence, there have been many efforts made by government and non government bodies to raise awareness and reduce the infection and death due to HIV/AIDS among the people.

Interns in this project are expected to lead awareness campaigns and give counseling to people. They can also conduct educational trainings and help the organization establish community outreach programs. In the health care project, interns are required to help the doctors and medical professionals with daily check up and providing basic medical care. The interns will be working with local doctors, nurses and health workers in hospitals and clinics. They can also treat minor injuries and perform tasks such as, cleaning and bandaging wounds, take the vital signs, record patient details and distribute medicines. But the roles and responsibilities of the interns will be according to their qualification and experience in the medical sector.

By working in the busy hospitals and clinics in India, interns can get an insight into the medical services provided by the healthcare system of one of emerging countries of Asia. Internship in Street children Project in India

Interns enrolling in the Street children project will work to help these children off the streets and provide them with equal opportunities as any other children.

In this project, the interns will be getting involved in providing education to the children, teaching subjects like English, Math and Science. Interns can also help in spreading awareness about personal hygiene and sanitation among the children. They can also work on the daily administrative and operative duties of the project and also take part in fund raising activities for the welfare of the street children.

In the Street Children project, interns will have a unique opportunity to work for the development of the street children and get a glimpse of the economic disparity of the nation. Education Requirements and Project Skills:

This project does not have special requirements that interns need to fulfill. However, qualities like patience, flexibility and compassion will be useful for interns who are willing to give in their time and effort to help these children get better lives.

Supervision and Field Support

The interns in the internship project will be guided and supervised by experienced and qualified supervisor. Usually the head of the project will be mentoring the interns throughout the internship duration, guiding them professionally towards the completion of the project. Depending on the qualification and time allotted for the project, interns may be required to pay an additional supervision fee of $25-$50 per week to the supervisor.

College credit for internship project in India

Please note that Helping Abroad does not provide college credits for internship project. Our local office or your supervisor can give you a letter verifying the duration and project of your internship. If you need college credit for your internship, please contact your own university or college. You can also talk to your professor.

Room and Food

Depending on the project locations (some part of Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Rajasthan, and Palampur), interns may also be placed with host families. Host family accommodations are simple and clean homes in safe neighborhoods. Interns usually get a private bedroom, but occasionally they also share rooms with a same-gender intern. Our host families are well screened and are respected members of their communities with a previous experience of hosting international volunteers and interns. Host family stays are a great chance for cultural immersion and exchange.

Interns will be provided with meals (local Indian food) three times a day (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner). However, other snacks and drinks outside the meal times will not be included. Vegetarian meals can be arranged for interns; however it should be aforementioned in the application form.

Free Time

Internship does not require interns to get involved in work 24/7. They will have free time in their hands during the evenings and during weekends, which they can use for interacting with other interns and visiting local areas nearby. They can go around the cities of New Delhi, Agra and Jaypur (according to the project location) and immerse into the vibrant culture of India.
