Internship in Cambodia Orphanage

UNICEF estimates that there are around 100,000 orphans in Cambodia due to various reasons such as poverty, conflict, disease and abandonment. Helping Abroad partners with orphanages that provide home to these unfortunate children and provide you with an opportunity to work as an intern in the orphanages.

During internship in the orphanage project, interns will be indulged in activities like teaching and taking care of the children living there. They can teach and tutor them with their homework, teach them basic life skills, and provide them with awareness in hygiene and sanitation. Interns are free to choose administration work if they want to, supporting the team with daily administration tasks and day to day office work. It is a very flexible program where interns are not restricted to only a single aspect of the program.

Interns through our programs will have the most unique opportunity to intern in an orphanage to acquire their internship abroad experience. They will also get an insight into the lives of children who live in orphanages if they are interested to get involved in social work in the future and learn administrative duties required for the functioning of such institutions and organizations. Medical Internship in Cambodia

The roles and responsibility of the interns in this program will be according to their qualification and skills in the medical field. Interns work will vary from doing basic medical duties like measuring patients’ blood pressure, temperature, height and weight and providing first aid care to diagnosing diseases and prescribing medicines. They will get the opportunity to work with local physicians, doctors and nurses, and will assist in counseling patients, maintaining health records and distributing medicines in health camps.

The interns will directly benefit from this program as they get to learn directly from experienced doctors and get hands-on experience in providing medical services by working in the hospitals and clinics. Educational Requirements and Project Skills

Interns for the Health Care Project are required to have knowledge on medical studies or should be students who are studying or already graduated from medical school. Medical certification providing the evidence of the intern’s status as a medical professional (or in the process of becoming one) should be submitted to the project while applying.

HIV/AIDS Awareness Internship in Cambodia

The devastating implications of HIV/AIDS cannot be denied in Cambodia, where the prevalence of the epidemic is one of the highest among Asia. As government efforts to reduce infections has brought the figures down, awareness campaigns and counseling is still the need of the hour.

Our internship program to create HIV/AIDS awareness will provide interns with the opportunity to work with the local organizations in spreading awareness about HIV/AIDS through campaigns and educational programs. Interns will be responsible for counseling to provide comfort, leading support groups and preparing education materials. Internship in Local NGOs in Cambodia

Cambodia has numerous Non Government Organizations (NGOs) working in grass root level communities in tireless attempts to push the communities towards improved living conditions and prosperity. Helping Abroad collaborates with the local NGOs providing interns this fabulous opportunity to work in the development sector.

The basic responsibility of the intern will be to support and train local people in capacity building tasks like marketing, fundraising, accounting etc. and establishing communication strategies. University students can help in writing funding proposals, case studies and reports. They can also help in IT skills, teach English to the local staff and help in conducting research on the success of programs and future plans.

Internship with the local NGOs will give a wide insight to the interns into the development works carried out in the ground level in a developing country. Especially those who have an interest in development studies and humanitarian work are highly recommended to intern in this program. Apart from this, it is also a wonderful opportunity to travel and experience the beauty of this very unique country.

Educational Requirements and Project Skills

No educational requirements or skills are needed to intern in this project. However, students of development studies are highly preferred for this internship program. The interns are expected to be willing to adapt, flexible, patient and passionate about community development.

Supervision and Field Support

While working as an intern in Cambodia, your internship project is supervised and guided by experienced and qualified supervisors. In most of the cases, the head of the project will serve as your supervisor of your internship program. The supervisors are experts in their respective areas where they will help you with any problem you have and guide you professionally till the completion of the project. Depending on your qualification and time allocated for you project, you might need to pay an additional fee of $25-$50 per week to supervisors. Please communicate with our office or our country coordinator if you need personal supervision to help you in your completion of your internship project.

College credit for internship project in Cambodia

Helping Abroad does not provide college credit in our internship projects. Our local office or your supervisor will provide you with a letter and certificate on the completion of your program verifying your work as an intern and your job responsibilities as an intern. If you need college credit for your internship, please contact your own university or college. You can also talk to your professors.

Room and Food

Interns are provided with accommodations in guest houses or host families with three meals a day for the duration of the internship program. Our guesthouse in Cambodia is located in a very safe neighborhood in the capital city of Phnom Penh near the Olympic Stadium and the Orussey Market. Our guest house is ideally located as it is very close to the local markets, internet cafes, restaurants, local bus stations, local police station and departmental stores. The guesthouse provides bedrooms with basic amenities with comfortable bedrooms and communal areas. There is a shared kitchen, television, hammocks, internet access and common bathrooms with hot and cold running water.

Meanwhile, accommodations with host families are in simple and clean houses in friendly communities where the families you will live with are respectable members of the community. Most of our host families have prior experience with hosting international visitors where the intern will have an invaluable opportunity to learn the ways and customs of Cambodia and immerse in its culture.

Interns are provided with three meals a day that includes lunch, breakfast and dinner. We also cater vegetarian meals but interns are requested to provide this information while applying for the program. The program does not include other meals and beverages apart from the three meals.

Specific details regarding accommodations, food and contact details of the local coordinator and the supervisor will be provided in a personalized internship placement document prior to your arrival.

Free Time

Interns have a lot to gain and experience in their free time as you have a plethora of options of spare time activities in Cambodia. Though we don't arrange activities for interns, our local staff, members and coordinators will provide you with the needed information for the various activities you choose for. You can visit the ancient temple of Angkor Wat, go for hikes, try out the exotic Cambodian cuisines or opt for adventurous sports. Whatever you do, our local staff will help you in providing the best options for you to make the right decision.
