Pay directly to host family and project

volunteer-in-nepalExcept for our registration fee of $299; volunteers will pay the fee directly to host families and projects that they work for. Our unique model of payment is based on transparency and volunteers are allowed to see where your money is being channelized. There are many other volunteer companies, who never show where the volunteer program fees are going, whose fund allocation is not transparent. Many volunteers are fleeced, as they are made to pay thousands of dollars for volunteering, from which, they later learn, the host family or project get just an insignificant fraction of it. To maintain financial transparency and honesty, we only take a small amount of coordination fee and ask volunteers to pay their fee directly to the project and host family.

1-12 weeks

Programs that are run by Helping Abroad, are flexible in the sense, the volunteers can fix the duration of the program as per their requirement. The programs run for a minimum of 1 week, provided that the volunteer can extend the duration of their stay for more. Volunteer programs run for no longer than 12 weeks. However, we prioritize the preference and time availability of the volunteer, so that they can freely decide how long they want to volunteer according to their plans.

Small group

The volunteers going through Helping Abroad are placed in projects they choose in small groups. Not more than 4-5 volunteers can be accommodated in a single project, because we firmly believe that too many volunteers in the same project will bring inefficiency in work. Therefore we try our best to make placements in small groups so that volunteers can get the joy of volunteering at an individual level, and vice versa.

All inclusive

Volunteers are charged an amount of weekly fee, which is inclusive of accommodation and food costs, and the service to local staffs. The application fee that volunteers are required to pay, includes costs of administration and coordination while corresponding with volunteers. We ensure that the funds are utilized transparently, to the benefit of the volunteers and that of the community they work for. You can check our website to see how the funds are utilized and what the fees include. In few countries, we do not cover food.

Authentic Cultural Experience

Helping Abroad believes that a volunteer trip without an authentic cultural immersion remains incomplete. As a part of the trip, volunteers who travel to a new place away from home, will get to learn about the new culture, traditions and customs; learn a new language, be it just a few basic words and get to taste a new cuisine. By mingling with the locals, staying with host families and witnessing new festivals, volunteers will get to relish a different culture, and be more open towards change and accepting towards differences.

Safety #1 Priority

Helping Abroad has always regarded safety of volunteers as its topmost priority. Volunteers are given safety instructions in orientation sessions, right after their arrival in the host country. Helping Abroad has an intensive screening process of host families who accommodate volunteers, so that volunteers remain safe and comfortable throughout their stay. Some families who host volunteers have been with Helping Abroad since the very start. Volunteers will also be under frequent scrutiny of field coordinators who will be available to them throughout the clock.

Great Home Cooked Food and host Families

We assure the safety and cultural immersion for our volunteers by letting them enjoy the local culture and the local cuisine made by the local people. Through home stay with host families, volunteers can enjoy delicious and hygienic home cooked food and immerse into the local culture, with the warmth of host family members who make volunteers feel home away from home.

Learn Spanish

Volunteers will get a unique opportunity to hone their language learning and speaking skills as they volunteer in Latin American countries. They can also get enrolled in Spanish language classes that Helping Abroad provides, so that language does not serve to be a barrier in this wonderful volunteer trip. As volunteers learn a new language, they can practice it while interacting with the locals and children while volunteering and sightseeing.

Free weekend and travel

Going abroad for volunteering does not mean volunteers are entitled to work throughout the whole trip. Volunteers would want to explore the new place, visit historical sites, monuments and enjoy the beauty of nature. Keeping this in mind, Helping Abroad arranges free time for volunteers during weekends and after volunteering time, for volunteers to travel and explore the new place. The coordinators will also suggest the best places to visit around, so that volunteers can get the best out of the trip to create lasting memories to cherish.
