Language and Cultural Immersion
As a volunteer in Sri Lanka, you may chose to participate in a one week program of Language and Cultural orientation in Galle, a small tourist city about 4 hours from Colombo. Volunteers spend the week in an intensive language and cultural training including lessons on Sri Lankan history and culture. In addition, volunteers learn about the two official languages of Sri Lanka, Sinhalese and Tamil. For interactive learning, the program takes volunteers on guided excursions to visit local villages, towns, markets and local tourist attractions including pristine beaches and wildlife sanctuaries.
This Helping Abroad language and culture program immerses volunteers in Sri Lankan culture and history so they may adequately acclimate to the country and efficiently use their time in Sri Lanka. Understanding your surroundings will make your volunteer experience rewarding, educational and more meaningful. This program is optional, but highly recommended! Most volunteers and travels seek such programs to enrich their international experiences.
